Hagloffs launch new boots for winter

Haglofs have launched new boots for winter. These are the Crag HIQ GT and the Vertigo HI GT. Both styles are available in men’s and women’s sizes and have been designed with Alpine Hiking and Via Ferrata in mind.

The Crag HIQ GT has a lower cut to the ankle and should prove popular with ladies looking for a boot suitable for less demanding trails, but still offering comfort and grip.

The Vertigo HI GT has been designed for climbing the more demanding trails.

With its Nubuck uppers and its Hypergrip sole, the boot has a stabilised area around the toes to ensure firm grip when climbing rocky trails. The PU heel cup further helps to absorb shocks, reducing knee and back strain.

Zamberlan celebrates 80th Birthday

Fillo™ uses thoughtful design to put all the comfort of a full size pillow into a 10.8 oz. package that stuffs smaller than a 1 liter water bottle. A combination of a 3" thick inflatable cell with engineered baffles and 1" of quality memory foam allows you to adjust the height and stability for the kind of sink-into-the-pillow comfort you can fall asleep with.

Tuo series of inflatable sleeping pads brings a new level of comfort to the backcountry. The Tuo™ pads have a thin film inside that divides two separate airtight levels of air and foam, each with its own valve. Not only do you have redundancy in case of a puncture, but you can inflate the base layer firm for protection from the uneven ground and keep the top layer partially inflated for maximum comfort. Available in Lite, Standard and Luxury.

For example sleeping bags can be listed together and sorted by price, weight or typical operating temperature. The Gear Adviser allowed you to enter a destination, ie Iceland and then products could be selected for that destination. When selecting an insulated layer, down would come up as not recommended due to the very damp climate in Iceland and synthetic was advised in its place. PHD have now added Trek as another category, to further assist customers make the right choice from its large and detailed catalogue. The Summerer sale is now on. You can visit the web site at

Italian boot maker Zamberlan celebrates its 80th birthday this year.

Due to his great passion for mountains, Giuseppe Zamberlan founder of the company tried to make better and more reliable products and just before the first world war he supported the then revolutionary idea put forward by his friend Vitale Bramani, founder of Vibram®, to develop rubber soles for mountain boots, which later would replace the leather soles and iron studs used at the time.

Since then Zamberlan has become one of the most important manufacturers of hiking and mountaineering footwear and its products are sold in outdoors shops throughout the UK. See Zamberlan site.
