I have had the opportunity to review the Newport sandals from Keen over a period of months and to try them out for in a number of different situations.

Some years ago I suffered a collapse of my heels and I needed special heel inserts for my trainers and hiking boots.

With the open backs there was no way I could keep the heel inserts in place, so I decided to try the sandals without them.

I need not have worried, as these have to be the most comfortable sandals I have worn in recent years.

Keen fit  metatomical footbeds to their sandals, which means that each footbed is individually shaped to fit the left and right foot. This works for me and I find the sandals comfortable to wear all day with little, or no fatigue.

I have loved wearing sandals from my days living in sunny California, but had never thought about wearing them out on the trail before, always being worried about stubbed and bruised toes. Well Keen thought of that too and fitted their sandals with a sturdy built in toe protector that really works.

Keen Newport’s are good for hiking, canoeing, sailing and walking

The soles give good grip on the trail and on the beach, making the Newport a very versatile sandal.

As well as hiking these sandals are also great for wearing out on the water.

They are made from a strong fabric which is comfortable to wear, does not chafe and as a bonus is also waterproof.

So you can wear them canoeing and sailing too, which is a real bonus.

The soles have an aggressive pattern and offer a lot of grip on the trail and when negotiating wet slippery stones and rocks.

Another thing I really like is the simple bungee cord which acts as lace and fastener. This is quick and easy to loosen when you want to take your sandals off and equally quick and easy to tighten them securely when you put them on.  This is a huge plus point in my mind. No more fiddling with cold wet laces.

I am very pro the environment and conservation, so when I heard that Keen also take a strong position on using as many recycled materials in their shoes as possible, I was very interested to try them. The Newport’s use recycled rubber for the sole, which I think is a brilliant idea. I am sure that readers who are vegetarian and vegan, would find these sandals a pleasure to wear.

I really liked the colours of the test sample with natural fabric, grey toe and sole and purple trim. These look great with jeans, shorts. or a skirt, so I can wear them to town on a sunny day, making these sandals so adaptable that they are unlikely to stay in my wardrobe for long.           Tahaweh Minwah - Advertising Manager
