Paramo Alta ll Waterproof Jacket Review

Okay, so nothing is perfect right, so what didn’t I like about this jacket? Well usually its not difficult to find something wrong with a product, but this jacket was very hard to fault. The workmanship was first rate with no loose threads, so whoever made it really did their work well. The zip is a double zipper and ran faultlessly either way. The pockets are deep, zipped and well designed. The hood is just brilliant. I suppose the only thing that could be thought a downer is the weight, but as I said it didn’t bother me! - Minwah

SRP £245  Men’s and Womens S - XXL  -  Weight 785g

In the summer we went down to North Cornwall to walk a section of the South West Coast Path and I chose to take with me the Alta ll waterproof jacket from Paramo.

It has to be said that the Alta ll is a bit heavy for summer use, although it is significantly lighter than its predecessor the Alta and once you have been wearing it for a while you forget about the weight.

The weather forecast didn’t look very good, you know the usual mix of sun, wet and cold, that we take for granted in the typical British summer!

I wanted a jacket that would be good on the trail and would keep me warm and dry, but be smart enough to wear into town in the evenings and the Alta ll fitted the bill nicely.

The jacket that I tested looks really smart in purple with a black lining and is available in a range of lovely colours.

The Alta ll is a three quarter length jacket with two deep zipped outer pockets, a large inside pocket big enough for an OS map and a brilliant wired hood that is still very comfortable to wear when the toggles are pulled tight and keeps the wind and rain at bay.

Unlike hard shell jackets, the Alta ll comes with a lining built in. This is a soft jersey like material which helps to wick away body moisture to the waterproof breathable Analogy outer layer.

The forecast for once was spot on and our walking consisted of battling into strong northerly head winds laced with icy spray, as we negotiated the high cliffs north of Bude for a couple of days. Then the sun came out and it was baking hot as we made our way south to Port Isaac and Tintagel. Then just to make the testers lot complete, we had two days of warm sun and showers. Perfect!

So I got to wear the jacket in some pretty diverse conditions.

Out on the cliffs I had the jacket zipped up and the wired hood really came into its own. With waterproof trousers over my jeans when the heavens opened, I stayed warm and dry.

When the sun came out, it was off with the waterproof over trousers, but with the cold wind still blowing quite strongly I kept the jacket zipped part way up.

With the weather being so fickle I took the Alta ll with me every day and even on the hot sunny days I did’t like to risk it, so I was really pleased that it was easy to link the arms round my waist and tie them in a secure knot.

When it came time for lunch I just spread the jacket on the grass and the inner lining made a great rug to sit on.

I found myself really liking the Alta ll for its versatility, so when I went into Bude to the hairdresser and to do some shopping it felt really good to wear this smart coat.

Out on the coastal path I liked the fact that I could carry my OS map in my inside pocket and that I could tuck my gloves into the large deep side pockets, without the fear of their falling out and getting lost.

Paramo Alta ll is great for the trail and smart enough for town!
